Storefront Door Locks in Concord

Shop doors around the plaza and along the Willow Pass Road frontage are, with very few exceptions, one design repeated: glass held in a narrow aluminum frame, with the lock hidden inside a vertical section barely two inches across. Nothing that fits it is sold in a hardware aisle, and that is why these doors so often sit half-broken for months. Deadlatches, hookbolt deadlocks, mortise cylinders in the correct cam and tailpiece combinations, paddle handles, inside thumbturns and overhead closers are all carried on the van instead. Anyone leaning on the door then finds it swinging open despite having been locked. Replacing the pivot and repositioning the strike deals with that at a small share of what a lock costs, and where that is the fault, that is what gets quoted. Where the latch itself has shortened with wear, a new one goes in. On a pair meeting in the middle, or on any door somebody has already levered, a hookbolt earns its place, because it rotates behind the keeper instead of sliding into it and cannot be sprung out by force. The cylinder is repinned or exchanged for one with the correct cam, and a thumbturn on the inside face means whoever closes up does it from indoors rather than out on the sidewalk at eleven at night.

The range for storefront work is $149 to $435 per door, hardware included, with the $89 service call inside it. Around $149 covers swapping a worn deadlatch or fitting a new mortise cylinder. The top of the range covers a hookbolt on a restricted cylinder together with a paddle handle and a closer reset on a heavy leaf. Where a stile cylinder needs repinning because somebody left the payroll, that is $25 to $40 per cylinder, quoted as one figure for however many doors are involved. Evening work on that first door comes to $189, and a start before 7am comes to $224, and both are named while you are booking.

You call and give the street and what the door is doing, with a photograph of the door edge and one of the lock face. The figure is said on the call. The van leaves Todos Santos Plaza, and a text names the technician and gives a thirty-minute window; downtown is about sixteen minutes and nowhere in Concord runs past thirty-one, and the slots before opening are the ones most shops take. The door is checked for sag, repaired or refitted, keyed, then swung through the closer a dozen times over. The receipt carries the figure you were given and names the make and model of every part, for the day the landlord asks what went into their door.
